Haleh Liza Gafori

Haleh Liza Gafori is a translator, poet, vocalist, and composer born in New York City of Iranian descent. Her book GOLD (New York Review Books, 2022), features her translations of poems by the 13th century mystic Rumi. With a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, Gafori has been developing a cross-media performance piece based on GOLD, weaving her translations, original text, and musical compositions.  She has teaches workshops on Rumi's poetry at universities and festivals across the country and abroad, including Stanford University, Swarthmore College, Omega Institute, and the Bradford Literary Fest. Her own writings have been published by Columbia University Press, Literary Hug, and elsewhere.
