Eeva Liisa Manner

Eeva Liisa Manner (1921–1995) was one of the foremost Finnish Modernist poets. She was born in Helsinki and lived in the industrial town of Tampere and, part of the year, in Spain. In addition to her poetry, she wrote novels, short stories, stage and radio plays, and was an essayist, critic, and translator. Her play, Poltettu Oranssi/Burnt Orange, had a nine-year run at the Tampere theatre. She has done important translations, including Hesse, Kafka, Mann, Mörike, and Shakespeare.
