Bill Johnston

Bill Johnston received the 2019 National Translation Award in Poetry for his translation of Adam Mickiewicz’s epic poem in rhyming couplets Pan Tadeusz (Archipelago Books, 2018). He has translated over thirty books from the Polish, including Julia Fiedorczuk’s poetry collection Oxygen (Zephyr Press, 2017). His other awards include the Best Translated Book Award, the PEN Translation Prize, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Guggenheim Foundation. He teaches literary translation at Indiana University.
